Last Chance to See: Saturn and a Crescent Moon

September 18th, 2015

If you live in the United Kingdom, you might be finding it hard to spot Saturn in the evening twilight. Fortunately, the crescent Moon is much easier to see and appears very close to the ringed planet in the sky tonight. Take a few minutes to enjoy the view as this will be the last time the pair can be easily seen together in the evening sky until next year.

If you live in Australia, you can enjoy the view better tomorrow evening, when the distance between them will be less. You’ll also get another opportunity to see them together in about a month’s time.

Astronomical events taken from 2015: An Astronomical Year, available in Kindle and paperback formats from Amazon in the USCanada and the United Kingdom. Sky simulations created using the Mobile Observatory app for Android devices.
