Early Earthshine Amongst the Stars of Scorpius

January 6th, 2016

Having passed Mars a few days ago, the waning crescent Moon now draws close to Antares, Venus and Saturn. Besides seeing the Moon close to the two planets, this is also a good opportunity to see Earthshine on the unlit portion of the Moon.

Pay particular attention to Saturn; Venus is rapidly catching up to it and will swap places with its sibling in just a few days. If you can’t wait that long, be sure to rise early tomorrow morning to see the Moon close to the ringed planet.
