March 30th, 2017 – Evening Sky
There’s a good opportunity to see Earthshine on the waxing crescent Moon tonight. You can see it close to Mars as both pass through the autumnal constellation of Aries, the Ram. Meanwhile, Mercury is still visible over the western horizon; it’s brighter than Mars but being lower it might appear dimmer against the brighter twilight sky.
Adapted from 2017: The Night Sky Sights (available in the U.S., and the United Kingdom) and 2017: An Astronomical Year (available in the U.S., and the United Kingdom.) For an easy guide to learn the constellations in the night sky, try my book, Signposts to the Stars (see image and links below.)
