The eclipse will be happening close to sunset for much of North America; however some parts of the United States and Canada will be able to enjoy it mid-afternoon.

05:48 UT – The almost new Moon is north of Spica. (Virgo, not visible.)

19:38 UT – First location to see the partial solar eclipse begin.

21:45 UT – Partial solar eclipse maximum. (Visible from Canada, western North America, northern Pacific and far eastern Russia.) Details will vary by location – check online for details. NEVER look at the Sun through binoculars or a telescope, even during a partial eclipse, as this can lead to blindness. Instead, project the image safely onto a piece of card.

21:57 UT – New Moon (Virgo, not visible)

22:06 UT – The new Moon is south of Venus. (Venus: 100% illuminated, magnitude -3.9, apparent diameter 9.7”. Virgo, not visible.)

23:52 UT – Last location to see the partial solar eclipse end.

Mercury brightens to magnitude 1.5. (15% illuminated, apparent diameter 8.9”, Virgo, not visible.)
